9th Annual Octavofest Celebration - October 2017

Join us in celebrating Northeast Ohio’s active community of book and paper innovators and our magnificent library and museum collections of fine and rare books during Octavofest 2017! Events will highlight The Artistry of Children’s Books.

Below are this year's Octavofest events at Cleveland State University and the Michael Schwartz Library:

Some of the books in the Pop-Up Books for Everyone exhibit
  • Pop-Up Books for Everyone
    October 2- December 15, 2017
    Michael Schwartz Library, first floor
    An exhibit of movable books from the collection of Glenda Thornton, Director of the Michael Schwartz Library, CSU.
    The exhibit is free and open to the public during Library Hours.
  • Play with Pop-Up Books
    October 9, 2017, 3:00 - 4:00 pm and October 17, 2017, 4:00 - 5:00 pm
    Michael Schwartz Library, first floor
    Free and open to the public
    Glenda Thornton takes you on a hands-on exploration of some of the amazing and imaginative books in her Movable Book Collection. The books, themselves, cover a wide variety of topics spanning from the fantastic (fables, fairy tales, superheroes, mythical beasts) to the more mundane (technology and science).
  • WatchArt! with Art Books Cleveland Members
    October 17, 2017, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
    Main Classroom, 1st floor lobby
    Free and open to the public
    Come meet, talk with, and watch the book artists of Art Books Cleveland (ABC) work on book projects.
  • Emily Martin
    Galleries Tour and Discussion with Emily Martin
    October 26, 2017, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
    The Galleries at CSU, 1307 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44115
    Free and open to the public
    Tour the state-of-the-art gallery with Robert Thurmer, Gallery Director, and Emily Martin, Octavofest's featured guest.
  • Books that Move: 700 years of Innovation and Artistry
    October 31, 2017, 3 - 4 pm
    Michael Schwartz Library, Rhodes Tower, Room 502
    Free and open to the public
    Glenda Thornton, Director of the CSU Michael Schwartz Library, will present "Books that Move: 700 years of Innovation and Artistry". An exhibit of her collection of movable books will be on display in the Library in October.
