Anne Garrels to speak at Cleveland State

Anne GarrelsAnne Garrels, roving foreign correspondent for National Public Radio's foreign desk, will appear at Cleveland State University on November 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Drinko Hall. (Drinko Hall is located in the Music and Communication Building, 2001 Euclid Avenue). Cleveland Public Library and Cleveland State University are partnering in this free and open to the public program to promote the new Cleveland State University Middle Eastern Studies program. Parking is available in the visitors' parking lot on Euclid Avenue just east of the campus book store and on the parking deck off East 21 Street. There will be a book signing after the lecture for her book, Naked in Baghdad.

Get Connected @ the Library with the Cleveland Press Collection

The Cleveland Press Collection consists of the former editorial library (or "morgue") of The Cleveland Press, the last of Cleveland's daily evening newspapers. The subject-sorted collection includes thousands of newspaper clippings and photographs dating from the 1920's until 1982.

Get Answers to Business, Health Sciences and Law Research Questions!

Sometimes you really need help from an expert. That's why OhioLINK librarians provide special online assistance from librarians who are experts in business, health sciences and law research. Plus, chatting online with a librarian saves time and frustration and allows you to get help no matter where you are.

Need help with business research?
Get help with business research questions from a business librarian at a participating OhioLINK library. Business librarians are available Monday through Thursday, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. during the main academic year (September through mid-May).

Need help with health, allied or life sciences research?
Chat online with a health sciences librarian from a participating OhioLINK library Monday through Thursday, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. during the academic year (September through mid-May).

Need help with law research?
Chat online with a law librarian from a participating OhioLINK library during the academic year (September through mid-May) on these days and times: Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturdays, 2-4 p.m.; and Sundays from 1-5 p.m.

Need help with other research questions?
Visit Chat with a Librarian to get online help with any and all research questions from a librarian at a participating OhioLINK library. Chat with a Librarian is available for more that 70 hours a week during the academic year (September through mid-May) and 40 hours a week in the summer. Check here for current hours.

17th Annual Scholars and Artists

The campus community is invited to attend the 17th Annual Scholars and Artists Reception honoring faculty, staff, and emeriti creativity. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the CSU Library, will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. in the Special Collections room on the 3rd floor of the Library. This year's special guest speaker is Dr.Steve Slane, Professor of Psychology and Interim Chair of the Department of Health Sciences. Dr. Slane will discuss aspects of his own research in a presentation titled, "Pollyannas, Ostriches, Control Freaks, and Flip-Floppers: The Role of Personality in Coping with Stress."

During the reception, guests can enjoy hors d'oeuvres and browse the display of recently published books, scholarly papers, art, music, web sites, and other works by Cleveland State University faculty, staff, and emeriti.

Cleveland Public Library Presents TRUTH, TECHNOLOGY AND THE VISUAL / VIRTUAL WORLD

Cleveland Public Library in partnership with Cleveland Public Art presents TRUTH, TECHNOLOGY AND THE VISUAL/VIRTUAL WORLD. The moderator will be Jaron Lanier, with Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid.

The event will take place in the Louis Stokes Wind Auditorium on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 2 p.m.

Turn to OhioLINK's Electronic Reference Books Collection for special-topic reference books--including encyclopedias, handbooks, biographical collections, guides--from ABC-CLIO, an educational reference publisher. Ten new e-books have been added to this collection, bringing the total number of available e-books to 450.
