Join the Festivities--Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Lafayette's birth

Bon anniversaire, Monsieur le Marquis!

The Marquis de Lafayette turns 250 on September 6th.

Join us in the library on Thursday, September 6th from noon to 1 :30 on the first floor of the Library to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the Marquis de Lafayette (1757-2007)
There will be:
  • Free birthday cake
  • An appearance by the Marquis himself
  • Representatives of the Sons of the American Revolution Color guard
  • A chance to win a new book about Lafayette by taking a quiz testing your knowledge of the Marquis
  • Free commemorative mementos honoring Lafayette and calling attention to the important Lafayette archive housed in the Cleveland State Library Special Collections
Lafayette, who was instrumental in helping us win our independence from the British, symbolizes more than 200-years of friendship between France and the U.S. The Marquis devoted his life to defending the cause of liberty in both the new world and in France, and this became the common foundation on which our two great nations are built.

Event sponsored by the Cleveland State University Library and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The event is free and open to the Campus Community. Call 216-875-9734 for more information.

OhioLINK Adds Thousands of Scholarly E-Books, Opens E-Book Center

Thousands of new scholarly e-books, published by Springer, are now available to students, faculty and staff at OhioLINK member institutions. These are recent (2005-2007), high-quality scientific, technological and medical books. Students can use these books to do research anytime, anywhere. Faculty can use the books for research or as course materials. Faculty can assign particular readings and link to relevant chapters or sections from course pages or Web sites. New Springer e-books will be added regularly. These recent additions bring the total number of e-books offered by OhioLINK to 25,000.

These new e-books are available as part of the new Electronic Book Center. Similar in concept to the Electronic Journal Center, the E-Book Center will allow you to find and utilize e-books from multiple publishers using one common interface. Currently, the E-Book Center contains 5,000 e-books from Oxford University Press and Springer. Additional e-books and e-book collections will be added, including the Electronic Reference Books collection. Links to OhioLINK’s other e-book collections are available from the E-Book Center’s home page.

Books in the E-Book Center will also be accessible from the OhioLINK Library Catalog. Records are being added for the new e-books.

Electronic Course Reserves--Fall Semester 2007

CSU Faculty--It is time once again to submit materials to be placed on the Library’s Electronic Course Reserve System (ECR) for the upcoming semester. To ensure that your course materials will be available to students by August 25th it is important to submit items as soon as possible. Now is not too soon! If items are submitted late, we cannot guarantee that they will be ready at the beginning of the semester.

If you would like any materials previously on Electronic Reserve to be reactivated for this Fall, please tell us now. Otherwise, all course materials from the previous semester, including books, must be removed from reserve in order to comply with Copyright Law. Any personal copies on reserve will be returned to you.

Because materials put up on ECR must meet federal guidelines for accessibility, it is important for you to provide good quality originals so that they can be scanned effectively. Please refer to the Library’s ECR Faculty Help Guide for further information.

In Summary

•Submit materials for reserve now so they will be up by August 25
•Submit good quality originals. Electronic files are welcomed
•See online help guide for more details
•Call Joanne cornelius at 687-6954 or email at if you have questions or to let her know if materials currently on reserve will be needed for Fall semester
